Congress on Arun Goel Resignation: Congress has targeted the Modi government at the Center over the resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goyal, just before the announcement of the dates of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024. Besides, such a decision has been described as extremely worrying for the world’s largest democracy.
Congress Party’s National General Secretary KC Venugopal said that the resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goyal just before the Lok Sabha elections is surprising. He said that now there is not much time left for the announcement of elections. He said that there is no transparency at all as to how a constitutional body like ECI is working and how the government puts pressure on them.

KC Venugopal said that during the 2019 elections, Ashok Lavasa had expressed disagreement against giving a clean chit to the Prime Minister for violation of the Model Code of Conduct. After this incident he had to face continuous interrogation. Such an approach shows that the regime is intent on destroying democratic traditions. Congress leader Venugopal further said that this should be made clear and the ECI should discharge its responsibilities in a completely non-partisan manner at all times.
